Symcor Wins Canadian HR Reporter’s 5-Star DEI Employer Award for 2024

SymcorAug 5, 2024

Symcor has been named one of Canadian HR Reporter’s 5-Star Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Employers for 2024. This is the second consecutive year that Symcor has received industry recognition, having won Human Resources Director (HRD) Canada’s 5-Star Benefits Program award in 2023. Both HR Reporter and HRD are affiliated brands of Key Media group.

“We have a strong people culture, driven by performance excellence,” says  Ana Brtan, Senior Vice President & CHRO at Symcor. “Receiving the 5-Star DEI Employer Award underscores Symcor’s steadfast dedication to nurturing a culture of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB).

Symcor’s strategic DEIB framework is designed to enhance how the organization attracts and retains talent. This includes creating job descriptions with gender-neutral language, partnering with diverse job boards, implementing bias-free screening processes, and setting recruitment targets for underrepresented groups.

Training is another vital aspect of Symcor’s DEIB strategy. A comprehensive DEIB training and leadership development program covers topics like unconscious bias, accessibility, and anti-harassment. Additionally, Symcor offers to its employees Udemy, a platform for self-directed learning, which provides an extensive catalog of DEIB courses.

Through DEIB initiatives, Symcor aims to create an environment where employees can truly thrive. “We developed a people strategy with three key pillars: fostering an environment of belonging, supporting employee well-being, and attracting, retaining, and developing the best talent,” says Ana.

Symcor’s Employee Value Proposition embodies a comprehensive strategy that surpasses traditional offerings. It provides a wide range of benefits and support, addressing various aspects such as financial, personal, well-being, growth, belonging, community, and leadership.

In addition, Symcor established the EMERGE resource group whose purpose is to Empower, Motivate, Encourage, Recognize, Grow, and Engage employees by embracing diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging in the workplace. EMERGE drives the development of Employee Resource Groups of which there are now five:

  • Women in Leadership
  • Early Career Network
  • Black Professional Network
  • Proud Professionals Alliance
  • Muslim Outreach, Support, and Inclusion Community

“We strongly believe that when our employees succeed, we all succeed,” comments Ana. “This spirit of excellence and collaboration flows through every facet of our organization.”

Symcor strives to continuously improve its offerings to support the employee experience so everyone can bring their whole self to work and thrive in an inclusive environment.
